Pete due to his singed flip-front being in the body shop. RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN. Due to persistent rain Saturdays qualifying was cancelled at 14:30, The Emergency Qualifying Hat produced the following pairings. Sunday 17th June1st Round OA2 Bob Hancox v OA59 Jeff MeadsSaturdays rain was more of a problem to Bob Hancox than most, after wiping out most of the rotating assembly of his Chevy motor a few weeks before. Bob found himself up against the heaviest hitter of the bunch, with a zero pass engine. In the Fire-up road Jeff had a dilemma of his own. The Custom Car Street Eliminator class, in which he was also competing in, had assembled only 8 pairs behind for their second round. Jeff decided to do both requesting his crew to fetch a fresh bottle of gas as he wouldn't have time to return to the pits. Onto the race, After strong burnouts from both cars there wasn't much in it off the line, but Jeff soon started powering away, on one of his straighter passes of the day. Jeff's winning E.T. 9.54 to Bob's checkout pass E.T. 11.99 1st Round OA3 Cliff Griffin v OA1 Rob StoneAgain a lack of testing time during qualifying was to play its part in this pairing. Rob had installed a new set of rear end gears, since he was last out. This was to be Cliffs first pass of the season. After the burnouts both cars sat in pre-stage for a couple of seconds, Rob nudged into stage first, again there wasn't much between them off the tree, Rob with a large wheelstand, that went slightly to the left. This race was much closer Rob taking the win E.T. 10.37 to Cliff's valiant E.T. 10.88 Final OA1 Rob Stone v OA 59 Jeff MeadsJeff drove straight off the return road into the pairing lanes for the second time of the day, after competing in the Street Eliminator final. With a hairy pass only five minutes before in the right hand lane, he elected the left. A strong burnout from Jeff's car, but Rob had a problem holding his car on the linelock even on a second attempt. Both cars sat in pre-stage for several seconds before Jeff dropped in. Rob reacted first, launching into a huge wheelstand that turned severely left. Forcing him to abort the run as he crossed the centre line towards Jeff, who powered onto his fastest pass of the day E.T. 9.04/154mph Robs loose out E.T. 12.82/37mph 1.40 Mb, 320x240 res. courtesy of Sharkman Congratulations to Jeff Meads, whose achievement was made more remarkable by the fact that he competed the Outlaw Anglia rounds in street trim as required required in the Custom Car street Eliminator class i.e. Pump Gas, Treaded Tyres, Exhaust etc. & managed all 6 passes in 5 hours. |
