There were 3 qualifying sessions on Saturday. Congratulations to Cliff Griffin & team for breaking into the eights, helped in part by dad Frank's special line bore. Paul Hensher sustained some engine damage after a nitrous malfunction in the second session. Eliminations 1st RoundOA82 Richard Colby v OA84 Dave SidawayDave was shut down due to a brake fluid leak, Richard ran a great 8.50/160mph OA1 Paul Wright v OA74 Steve NightingaleThis was Steves first competitive round of racing & the odds were against him, AlcoPop ran straight & true 7.49/187mph. Steve ran 12.50/112mph. OA5 Rob Stone v OA344 Ray GuyRay launched with a big wheelstand then punted a centre reflector 11.13/122mph. Rob went through 9.50/141mph. OA31 Cliff Griffin v OA80 Al O'ConnorAl' left first then Cliff motored past running his second eight, 8.91/151mph p.b. to Al's 10.30/124mph. OA81 Simon Barlow v OA76 Rick HooperRick's street driven Anglia is now equipped with wheelie bars after a huge wheelstand earlier in the year, ran a superb 9.69/140mph Simon has been feeding in more power this weekend & took the win with a 9.32/146mph. OA19 Paul Hensher v OA 74 Steve HarrisonSteve should have faced Paul Hensher but was on a solo due to breakage. Steve progressed with a 11.00/123mph
Eliminations 2nd RoundOA1 Paul Wright v OA5 Rob StoneBoth cars had good runs Rob 9.59/139mph, Guv won with a 7.62/188mph. Watch here OA82 Richard Colby v OA31 Cliff Griffin A pair of eight second runners Cliff posted 8.94/151 but it wasn't enough to stop Richard progressing with a great 8.247/168.2mph p.b. OA81 Simon Barlow v OA74 Steve HarrisonSteve piloted Anxious to its final pass of the weekend as 12.05/117mph. wasn't enough to beat an on form Orange Pop Team's 9.46/144mph
Semi-FinalsOA82 Richard Colby v OA81 Simon Barlow Simon was a bit keen on the lights & red-lit however that wasn't the end of the drama, Richard suffered tyre shake away from the tree, then crossed the centreline on 2 wheels, only just staying upright, before coming to rest back in his lane with jammed steering. Simon progressed via the first or worse rule. 9.72/126mph. OA1 Paul Wright - bye This pass was Paul's most errant of the weekend, only managing 10.19/131mph
Final OA81 Simon Barlow v OA1 Paul Wright After the last pass Paul took some power out & despite the car moving about in the lane won the round 8.01/174mph to Simons 9.35/142mph
